چکیده

We consider a general elliptic Robin boundary value problem. Using orthogonal Coifman wavelets (Coiflets) as basis functions in the Galerkin method, we prove that the rate of convergence of an approximate solution to the exact one is O(2−nN ) in the H norm, where n is the level of approximation and N is the Coiflet degree. The Galerkin method needs to evaluate a lot of complicated integrals. We present a structured approach for fast and effective evaluation of these integrals via trivariate connection coefficients. Due to the fast convergence rate, very good approximations are found at low levels and with low Coiflet degrees, hence the size of corresponding linear systems is small. Numerical experiments confirm these claims.

A kernel-free boundary integral method for elliptic boundary value problems

This paper presents a class of kernel-free boundary integral (KFBI) methods for general elliptic boundary value problems (BVPs). The boundary integral equations reformulated from the BVPs are solved iteratively with the GMRES method. During the iteration, the boundary and volume integrals involving Green's functions are approximated by structured grid-based numerical solutions, which avoids the...

A numerical method for solving nonlinear partial differential equations based on Sinc-Galerkin method

In this paper, we consider two dimensional nonlinear elliptic equations of the form $ -{rm div}(a(u,nabla u)) = f $. Then, in order to solve these equations on rectangular domains, we propose a numerical method based on Sinc-Galerkin method. Finally, the presented method is tested on some examples. Numerical results show the accuracy and reliability of the proposed method.

The Explicit-Jump Immersed Interface Method: Finite Difference Methods for PDEs with Piecewise Smooth Solutions

Many boundary value problems (BVPs) or initial BVPs have non-smooth solutions, with jumps along lower-dimensional interfaces. The Explicit–Jump Immersed Interface Method (EJIIM) was developed following Li’s Fast Iterative IIM (FIIIM), recognizing that the foundation for the efficient solution of many such problems is a good solver for elliptic BVPs. EJIIM generalizes the class of problems for w...

Local flux conservative numerical methods for the second order elliptic equations

A discontinuous Galerkin type nonconforming element method and a local flux matching nonconforming element method for the second order elliptic boundary value problems are presented. Both of these methods enjoy the local flux conservation property. The local flux matching method finds a numerical solution in the same solution space of the DG type nonconforming element method, but it achieves mu...

On the coupling of finite volume and discontinuous Galerkin method for elliptic problems

The coupling of cell-centered finite volume method with primal discontinuous Galerkin method is introduced in this paper for elliptic problems. Convergence of the method with respect to the mesh size is proved. Numerical examples confirm the theoretical rates of convergence. Advantages of the coupled scheme are shown for problems with discontinuous coefficients or anisotropic diffusion matrix.
